Spring brings all kinds of newness to us at Ce Soir Arts – come enjoy!

First of all, the new art exhibit – Mystical Spring with Xanthe Firehawk is open and enjoying visitors. See the previous posting for details, and pop on over to enjoy! We are so pleased to host Xanthe and encourage you to visit at Côte de la Mer Galerie – and the Ivy Tower as well – to enjoy Xanthe‘s work. I also want to remind everyone to please use the Guest Book on the centre table to leave a note for Xanthe or for us. Your comments mean the world and we want to hear about your experience of the art – and everything else here. Thank you!

And so…we enjoyed the readings on Tuesday at The Magic Tree. Poet Laureate Russell Eponym was in fine form and he offered us the conclusion of Rumer Godden’s The Diddakoi – a marvelous tale, well read over several weeks. Kizzy’s adventures were sometimes tense and sometimes truly delightful – but always entertaining and inspiring.

My short reading of some springtime poems brought me a lot of joy. Sharing some of my in-world photography and photographs by other artists to depict the poems was very enjoyable for me and – I dare say – for our guests! Reading William Butler Yeats’ beautiful The Ballad of Wandering Aengus was sheer pleasure.

Caledonia Skytower absolutely outdid herself by sharing her new writing. Inspired by her experiences at Fantasy Faire as director of the annual LitFest series of literary events, the pieces are fanciful and serious. She shared two poems in honour of friends who valiantly fought cancer that touched our hearts. This was a very special reading, and we look forward to hearing more!

Æon brought us another of Robert Sheckley’s sci-fi stories – this time, a sardonic one that thrilled. Demons was rather fun – in an odd sort of way – and he dressed the part, wings and all! We surely enjoyed the deft reading!

And so, on we go in a busy week! Have a good one, friends!

Mystical Spring Open at Côte de la Mer Galerie – and Readings on Tuesday Reflect the Spring Mood…

Finally, it is Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. What a winter of storms and bitter winds! It brought deep snows to several locales and icy breezes to all. Many days were grey and dank – but still filled with beauty! Most readers know of our fascination with winter snows – and of our “wintry escape” at Ce Soir Arts. Many say it feels cozy on a winter’s night – or refreshing on a summer’s day! There is outdoor wandering there, along with two refuges from the weather: The Conservatory and The Oracle Parlour. Do visit, if you have the inclination. But for now, we are on to warmer climes and topics in tune with the season!

We have a special treat in May, a beautiful art exhibit at Côte del la Mer Galerie featuring the artworks of the lovely fantasy artist and builder Xanthe Firehawk. You may remember her work that was highlighted during Mad Masquerade this past Hallowe’en (and still present) at The Ivy Tower. Many of you, no doubt, are also aware of her own gallery and shop Enchanted Fantasy. Visit there for more artworks and a wide array of landscaping and other items in a fantasy theme. Her work is excellent and you will enjoy visiting! There are teleporters to take you to the various areas. Go…enjoy!

As for this lovely exhibit – Mystical Spring – Xanthe has brought us five of her works. They are for sale at a very reasonable price, and fill with beauty the wall you see on entering. The mystical quality of each piece is evident as spring comes into view. Each one is richly hued and captures the mystical quality of the season, offering us a peek into the life of the forest with beautiful faeries and fanciful creatures to delight the senses. The realism in her work is often striking, and the figures seem to invite you in to enjoy the wonder.

Please click on the exhibit sign that is just outside the door at entrance; you will receive a notecard with information about Xanthe and her work. A quotation from the note gives us a look into the work of this magnificent artist:

“I appreciate all forms of art and in particular fantasy art. Art can evoke high emotions, similarly to literature, creative writing, music, theatre, and poetry. Pictures can make a person laugh with happiness, or cry with sadness, but either way they stir our emotions. Each piece of artwork is as individual as the person who has created or painted it, having its own unique personality, its own story to tell. Some are beautiful, some are ugly, some are friendly, fun, and happy, whilst others sad, lonely, and forlorn, but each has something of beauty to find within it, something that captures the essence of the creator, the artist who has painted it expressing their emotions openly through their work for all to see and admire, or sometimes criticise. Therefore, humanity is the reason why I fall in love with art. My re-mastered artworks in SL are a celebration to share with all who gaze upon them the extreme talent of artists who inspire us and with whom we have the privilege of sharing our RL world and SL lives with.– Xanthe Firehawk

Do come enjoy this gorgeous exhibit! After, be sure to take the LM notecard found at the door and wander Ce Soir and Ce Soir Arts. There is much to see and do including in spaces above and below the sim. Come…be inspired – and enchanted – tonight!

On Tuesday, readings will continue the mood of spring. Poet Laureate Russell Eponym brings both poetry & song to us at The Magic Tree at NOON SLT. Every week is a joy, but do come for this enchanting hour of poetry, story and music with Russell and friends who gather, eager to experience his presentation. A range of music styles is shared, along with fascinating stories and poetry by the masters; he even shares writing from his own pen from time-to-time. Russell is a multifaceted talent, and this hour is always magical, but is uniquely so as we celebrate Spring!

At 1 PM, I will share a short reading of springtime poetry with a fanciful twist. I will also share some photographs – some my own and those of others – to highlight the poetry and carry through the Springtime mood. The focus is mystical to go along with the new art exhibit. Come round at The Magic Tree! You will be warmly welcomed!

Next, at 1:30 PM SLT, Caledonia Skytower, the gifted writer and reader who leads at the beloved Seanchai Library drops in to share something extra-special. She has been quite busy, coordinating everything for LitFest at Fantasy Faire, the well-known annual fundraiser for RFL of SL. This event, in its tenth year of success in gathering funds to fight cancer, is always filled with fun and frolic! This year was outstanding and Cale worked with LitFest and took the literary events to a new level of engagement. On Tuesday, we will hear something quite special. Her presentation is entitled: “I went to the Faire…and this is what I wrote.” Her writing is exemplary and her delivery charming. Come join us!

At 2:30 PM, Ǣon Woodford brings us another of Robert Sheckley’s sardonic sci-fi tales. This time, it’s Demons, and it’s surprisingly humourous! Here’s a taste: Walking along Second Avenue, Arthur Gammet decided it was a rather nice spring day. Not too cold, just brisk. A perfect day for selling insurance, he told himself. He stepped off the curb at Ninth Street. And vanished. Well…what happens next is truly interesting! Of course, Ǣon tells the tale in his own inimitable style…which makes it all the more appealing. He’s dressed for the part – as he is wont to do – so don’t let him frighten you. (Well, don’t let him frighten you unduly!)

We will be happy to see you at The Magic Tree, and of course, at Côte de la Mer Galerie whenever you can come by. There are wonderful music events planned for Thursday, so check back for more information soon! As always, remember that the sim is open and that there are areas above and below to explore! Come…be inspired tonight!

Celebrating May Day and Spring at The Magic Tree this Week!

Winter has finally faded in the Northern Hemisphere, and we are planning a lovely celebration! On Tuesday – May Day – at NOON SLT, the Poet Laureate of Ce Soir Arts RUSSELL EPONYM will bring poetry and song to share. His weekly session at The Magic Tree is always a treat, as he always offers us the most wonderful hour! His Thought for the Day is always something to ponder and is generally uplifting and helpful as well. The music he shares – some of his own, but also marvellous recordings of musicians from across the creative landscape – is enjoyable, to say the least. The stories Russell reads in installments capture our imaginations and have us returning for more each week. Add to that the short tales and poetry that flow from his amazing archives…well, MAGICAL is the word that springs to mind!

And speaking of SPRING…it’s MAY DAY this Tuesday, and Russell will help us usher in the month with delightful readings and music. We have the MAYPOLE up and all are invited to dance and make merry in the glen of The Magic Tree. We do hope you will join us, as you will be welcome indeed! He will be nearing the close of reading The Diddakoi – a fanciful and dramatic tale by Rumer Godden. We can’t wait for that – and to see what’s next!

Maypole at Ce Soir Arts

As soon as Russell wraps his reading, ÆON WOODFORD steps up to read another story from sci-fi great Robert Sheckley. This tale, Warm is one of his more flat-out horror stories, comparatively free of the sardonic cynicism that usually marks his fiction. It’s even got a bit in common with the Lovecraft formula of the man exposed to unfortunate knowledge that drives him mad. Stick around for this 30-minute thrill ride…if you dare!

Then…on Wednesday, Master Storyteller BRYN TALEWEAVER will fly in to share with us some of the wonderful writings of Oscar Wilde. The works of the Irish poet and playwright are riveting reads, and Bryn’s excellent delivery make them even more so. Wilde is best remembered for his epigrams and plays, his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, as well as the circumstances of his imprisonment and early death. Come enjoy with Bryn as he reads both “The Young King” and “The Sphinx without a Secret.” We gather round at 1 PM SLT in spring enchantment at The Magic Tree.

At 2 PM, the wonderful writer and reader DUBHNA RHIADRA brings her enchanting reading style to share with us more from the beautiful post-apocalyptic compendium of faerytales Tatterdemalion. This book of marvellous stories is by author Sylvia Linsteadt, and it is a joy to hear under that special Dubhna magical telling. You just do not want to miss this hour, and we will be happy to have you joining us!
Then, at 3 PM, I (MIREILLE JENVIEVE) will share some of my springtime favourites – two from my own pen. I will display some of my original SL photography as well, so do come listen as I explore in poetic verse the idea of spring as metamorphosis.
We move to Château Ce Soir for Thursday’s musical treat with RUSSELL EPONYM, who brings us 90 minutes of his wonderful folk, blues, and beyond – LIVE from Wales! We always have a marvellous time, and Russell provides the soundtrack with his fanciful fingerstyle guitar, deft harmonica-playing – and a whole lot more! We have quite a chat with Russell, who streams live from his new studio in Llandudno, Wales. It’s a charming hour-and-a-half of dancing, singing, and friendly banter amongst friends. Do come enjoy with us! It’s spring – so put on your dancing shoes and celebrate!
Below is the schedule…come, be inspired tonight! And please check an earlier posting for information about FANTASY FAIRE, LITFEST, and RFL of SL! The Faire ends soon!

Nuvolino Prepares for Les Vacances…and Anj Gustafson Returns to the Stage Tonight!

TONIGHT is a BIG at Château Ce Soir!

NUVOLINO, the Australian wizard of trance and electronica, will drop in at his new time of 5 PM SLT to download his very cool groove for our listening and dancing pleasure. We always enjoy Nuvoino’s  twice-monthly shows at the Château, but tonight is special, because he leaves for vacation after this show and won’t return until 07 June. We are thrilled for him, as his plans sound fantastic – both adventuresome and restful (which seems like the perfect formula for a wonderful vacation) – but we’ll miss his unique sound and charming banter! Put it on your calendar for June and come enjoy this original music with NUVOLINO once more! You will be amazed as you let the beat move you!

ANJ GUSTAFSON, well-known as one of our virtual world’s top musicians and vocalists, had to miss his last scheduled show at the Château. We are excited as he returns at his usual time of 6 PM tonight! It’s always a treat to have this multi-faceted performer on stage, playing from his extensive repertoire of outstanding contemporary tunes. It’s a fine mix from ELP, Radiohead, the Who and many others. When he delivers one of his own compositions, it’s even more special and the audience loves it! KI always accompanies ANJ, bringing her sweet enthusiasm and a dance HUD that can’t be beat. As a member of the Spirit Light Dance Company, KI shines with her grasp of choreography and dance choices for each song. Put it together with ANJ in his stellar performance and the company of friends, it’s an hour of music and fun! Come on over – we’ll be having a party!

YOUR RIDE – and you know to walk up to the second floor of the Castle. We will be most pleased to greet you!

Poet Laureate Russell Eponym reads at The Magic Tree – Cale is busy with LitFest at Fantasy Faire…

It’s Tuesday, and that means an hour of wonder at The Magic Tree with Ce Soir Arts Poet Laureate Russell Eponym. We gather at NOON SLT, so join with us for an hour of enchantment. It’s spring at Ce Soir Arts, so join us for a refreshing hour in the garden. CLICK HERE to teleport to The Magic Tree. We will be happy to welcome you!

Usually, on this Tuesday, the gifted writer and reader Caledonia Skytower drops in to share excellent stories – often those with a delightful Gaelic flavour. However, today Cale is busy with LitFest at the 10th Annual Fantasy Faire, supporting Relay for Life of SL. The event is quite special and provides a wide array of enjoyable readings – all within Fantasy Faire realms. Access information by clicking HERE. Learn about the events and attend when you can. So much happening for us in the physical realm right now…all of it happy and sweet. April arrives – happy spring!

With the first quarter of the year past, we move into spring with jubilation! It has been a challenging winter for many around the world – especially in the US and UK, where storms brewed and kept winter hanging about. Even on this weekend, there is snow and blustery winds blowing in several areas. Stay warm…the sun will be out soon!

Whilst we are sipping our hot chocolate this evening, we are reflecting on an extra-special show with Russell Eponym at Château Ce Soir that wrapped up a few hours ago. Now, all of Russell‘s presentations – be they literary or musical – are spectacular in their own right, this particular gathering (at one point, more than 50 had joined us) was extra-special. Now and again, there’s just this amazing feeling that permeates the atmosphere, and it was evident for this evening’s show. Everyone was in an upbeat mood, and we had many new visitors dropping in to enjoy Russell‘s talents – and he was in fine form on the guitar and harmonica, not to mention those velvety vocals. The songlist was a fine mix, as well, and we heard music from Bert Jansch, Donovan, Bob Dylan, John Prine, and Russell himself! It was magical!

As you know, Russell is Poet Laureate, Artist in Residence, and Musician Extraordinaire at Ce Soir Arts. He fulfills all those titles with supreme excellence, and you can expect some stellar performances as the year moves on. In fact, there will be some exceptionally fine surprises ahead, so…stay tuned! And don’t forget to join us every Tuesday at NOON SLT at The Magic Tree for an hour of literary genius and music from across the genres. Russell‘s readings are always special, but your presence will make them even more so. Of course, there’s every Thursday at 2 PM too, as Russell‘s delightful folk, blues, and beyond fill the sim with beauty. Come along and enjoy with us!

Something special is happening at Seanchai Library! Of course, something special is always happening there including an array of outstanding spoken word events. However, this is quite the celebration! The Library has been operating in-world for 10 years this month, and the group is offering a series of happenings to commemorate this achievement. Special events are scheduled 15 – 25 March – 10 days celebrating 10 years of excellence in sharing the best in literature.

Team lead, Caledonia Skytower, has worked with her collaborators to put together an impressive schedule, accessible HERE. Please do yourself a favour and teleport over to enjoy some of the best readings and presentations available anywhere. Readers including well-known talents like Elrik Merlin, Shandon Loring, Dubhna Rhiadra, Corwyn Allen, and Caledonia herself will enthrall audiences with selections especially chosen for these events. LMs and details about each reading are available on the aforementioned schedule page, and even more information is to be found at the Library on Holly Kai. Teleport HERE to have a look around and enjoy the environment they’ve created.

Activities continue at Ce Soir Arts…but we need a blog hiatus, due to RL demands. We’ll be back!

Lots is happening for us in the physical realm, so we’re stepping away from the blog for a bit – just to have a bit more time to devote to some major (and mostly, very exciting and happy) changes. Look for our return – sometime in March or April. We’ll keep you apprised before then.

Thank you for understanding – and for being such kind and steady readers! Enjoy the shift from winter to spring in the Northern Hemisphere – and the gaining of cooler weather Down Under. Enjoy the glories of nature (or at least, be relieved that seasonal storms – which have been really striking this year – are over); be well and happy!

Drop in at Ce Soir Arts, any time – and check the schedule board outside Château Ce Soir – or dive into SL Search for dates and times of marvelous poetry and other literary readings; musical shows from folk to rock to electronica; art exhibits featuring drawings, sculpture, and other expressive media; dramatic presentations including plays and vignettes; and much more!

Teleport HERE…and wander! Come, be inspired tonight!

The Main Landing for Ce Soir sim and Ce Soir Arts…

Valentine’s Week brings the return of Russell Eponym…and much more!

First…the week’s line-up! Note the outstanding spoken word events on Tuesday and the excellent musical offerings on Thursday… We had planned a bit of a special event on THE day, but it just could not be managed – mostly because of some important things happening in the physical realm including a very nasty cold for me and some career-related travel for Æon. There’s a bit of added stress due to some upgrades and the like for the Internet in our area following the fires. Wednesday (14 February) is to be the busiest day, with lots of downtime for the web, so…we decided to make the whole week a party!

Of course, we are happy to welcome our Poet Laureate RUSSELL EPONYM back from his extended vacation. He has been away for some time and we are so pleased that he enjoyed his travels to Australia – and has returned with renewed vigor. We cannot wait to hear him reading at The Magic Tree on Tuesday at Noon. It’s bound to be a delightful hour!

CALEDONIA SKYTOWER follows at 1:30 PM and has a treat in store! She will read selections from Erin Morgenstern’s best-selling Night Circus. There is intrigue and mystery awaiting as secret rivalries are revealed in this magically-appearing circus on the edge of town… You won’t want to miss a moment!

Then, at 2:30 PM, ÆON WOODFORD steps to the fore with Love & Lust in the 17th Century. This will be a fanciful hour of classical romantic poetry that sometimes goes beyond sheer romance…. Exceptional poetry by Donne, Marvell, Herrick, and others will capture your heart as they each delve deeply into the world of romance – and beyond…!

Do join us and enjoy the new romantic animations you might find sprinkled about the sim – or just relax and enjoy the music and calming ambience of Ce Soir and Ce Soir Arts. Check back soon for details about Thursday’s musical shows. We have (as you can see below) a stellar line-up for your enjoyment!

To The Magic Tree: HERE

An exciting week!

Outstanding music will fill the hall on Thursday this week!

We are very into literature at Ce Soir Arts – and in our private lives in the physical realm as well. We have been missing our Poet Laureate, RUSSELL EPONYM, as he has been on an extended holiday. He truly deserves this break, but we are looking forward to his return at The Magic Tree on Tuesday, 13 February. Put it on your calendar, as Russell’s readings are always truly unique and engaging – and that reading (and one by CALEDONIA SKYTOWER, who will also return to The Magic Tree on that date) will focus on Valentine’s Day and the theme of LOVE. RUSSELL‘s command of the language is singular and his catalogue of works extensive. He reads from a range of writers – from the classics to the more recent, from rich drama to incredible humour. CALE also brings a wide range of delightful stories to her readings, often focusing on the Celtic, as RUSSELL is often wont to do as well. We’ll see you then!

IN THE MEANTIME…there is much to enjoy on the sim! Winter Dreams Art Exhibit will open soon at Côte de la Mer Galerie…another of our private collection showings that we enjoy sharing. But that’s not all! Come enjoy an evening of excellent music at Château Ce Soir this coming Thursday (01 February), beginning at 5 PM SLT. At that hour, BAZ and Band will step to the stage to offer us an hour of what we refer to as atmospheres of sound. He is a professional musician and arranger who brings all his talents – from writing to performance – to bear at every unique show. BAZ plays piano and guitar with finesse and he can deliver an hour of hot rock, cool blues, swingin’ jazz, smooth ballads or even tranquil zen. Come along and enjoy the adventure of BAZ!

At 6 PM, well-known and much-loved musician and vocalist ANJ GUSTAFSON takes the castle by storm. ANJ an KI – who always brings her awesome dance HUD to share – know how to rock a room, and this evening’s set will be no exception. ANJ‘s way with guitar, piano, moog, and flute is truly magical, and his original tunes are very special (my fave is the beautiful love song, Crystal Lake). Covers are exceptional, as ANJ honours the original artists AND makes their songs his very own. It’s much more than charming, and that Southern drawl is a delight!

After all that, Australian musician NUVOLINO drops in to offer us an hour of very cool trance and electronica that takes us way past deep house into something unique and VERY danceable! His original tracks are the perfect energetic wrap on the night, and you’re invited to stay and enjoy with us. The beat is palpable, and the energy undeniable when NUVO is playing. His setup fills the stage and the light show is always stunning, pulsating in time to the music. The whole sim seems to light up as the music is broadcast on stream for all to hear!

Here’s the schedule for THURSDAY – and your ride to Château Ce Soir!

Riveting readings at The Magic Tree – midweek!

This Wednesday, we will enjoy excellent literature, presented by three of our favourite readers: BRYN TALEWEAVER, DUBHNA RHIADRA and ÆON WOODFORD. Each of these three talented readers always bring something special for us to enjoy, and this week is no exception to that. In fact…check the schedule for a hint of the inspiration that awaits!

Master storyteller BRYN TALEWEAVER arrives at 1 PM SLT – LIVE from the UK – to bring us an engaging hour. This Wednesday, he dips into classic literature to share an adventure from The Arabian Nights! This historic collection of tales is cherished around the globe, as it has been built meticulously in various cultures over time. BRYN always chooses his programmes carefully, and this tale will be perfect for his dialect-rich delivery. Come enjoy as we gather at The Magic Tree!

At 2 PM SLT, gifted writer and reader DUBHNA RHIADRA steps to the fore with something very special – a stunning post-apocalyptic fairytale by Sylvia Linsteadt titled Tatterdemalion. This chapter, called Ffion 1650-2198 CE is nothing short of astounding. DUBHNA is always engaging, with soulful and expressive readings that offer listeners a unique literary journey. Her style of reading is reflective of the meaning of the story she is telling, and her grasp of historical tales is obvious. Come relax and enjoy with us!

Wrapping up Storytime at The Magic Tree this Wednesday, ÆON WOODFORD brings us another tale from Ray Bradbury‘s amazing science fiction work The Martian Chronicles. Usher II is a story that reflects Bradbury‘s fascination with Poe‘s Fall of the House of Usher and other works that are evocative of spooky mystery. Sci-fi is a versatile genre, and ÆON is a well-read afficianado who has a deep respect for writers like Bradbury who have proven their mettle over time. Come join us for the space journey and adventure!

Your conveyance to THE MAGIC TREE…see you here!

Three hours of music highlight the week…

FIRST…an important note:

As we continue our foray into the new year, we are happy to report that most of what we’re hearing from friends and family is positive. Weather challenges seem to be occupying the minds of many in the US as wintry storms take their annual swipe across the country. Changes in the atmosphere and climate are of concern, but most are dealing effectively with the rain, mudslides, ice, and snow. The forest fires that ravaged so much of our beloved California have resulted in serious ground erosion and devastating mudslides, and the deep freeze being felt in other locations has made travel treacherous and digging out during blizzard conditions more than a challenge.

It should go without saying, but we send our very best to all affected by these weather events, and urge everyone to do the same. Donating to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and other reputable charitable organisations such as the United Way can make an important positive impact. If you can, please considering giving. We know it’s right after Christmas…but any amount will help. Click on the links above to visit those charities’ websites – and do check out any and all charitable causes before donating. Thank you!

THIS WEEK…three hours of music to keep us warm (or cool, depending on need!)…

Thursday is known as “music day” at Château Ce Soir. It’s always been the highlight of song and dancing, right from the very beginning six years ago. This week, three of our regularly-appearing musicians will light up the night, and you’re invited to come along for the festivities! At 5 PM SLT, we open with the amazing BAZ – LIVE on stage and rarin’ to go with his exciting sound. Even when the music is mellow, there’s an electricity afoot whenever BAZ is around.  This professional musician/composer/ arranger always comes with a theme in mind – and it’s always amazing and impeccably played.

After that, at 6 PM SLT, contemporary musician ANJ GUSTAFSON lands with his incredible set-up…and set! His range of music is astounding, focusing on some of the finest rock and ballads ever written. ANJ never seems to stop adding new tunes – be they new originals or covers from a growing cadre of outstanding singular artists and groups. His deft guitar, primo work at the piano, and some delightful forays into the sound of the flute come together seamlessly as he explores his favourite genres. With KI leading the singles dancing, you just have to get into the groove! Come on your own or bring someone special – and do request your favourite song!

At 7 PM SLT, the stage is switched out (and they do it so quickly!) to the amazing CHILL musician from Australia: NUVOLINO! This guy knows his genre, and it’s all original! He brings a steady stream of trance and ambient tunes that always have us moving in time to the undeniable beat. He visits the archives for some incredible sounds from his early days and always brings us up-to-the-minute with what’s new and fresh. NUVO infuses his music with so much energy that it literally spills out all over the place! The light show is always stunning…so get your dancing shoes on an come on over!

Truly, you ought to just come on over at 5 and stay for the entire three hours! You will be glad you did! Come start the weekend with us (we have officially given Friday weekend status around here!)…it’s an incredible night!

Remember too, that all of Ce Soir Arts is open to you. Grab the LMs to pop up to the gorgeous wintry escape or delve into the dark side in one of our underground dungeons. The sim is a fascinating place – and the views from Le Phare (the lighthouse) are spectacular! Crave a little mermaid time? Drop down to the Cove…

Come…be inspired tonight!

Welcome to Château Ce Soir…

Readings resuming at The Magic Tree on Wednesday…

The US holiday season – from Thanksgiving through New Year’s – has been a time of celebration and rest for us at Ce Soir Arts. Like many people, we’ve had a houseful of guests and have attended several parties. We’ve had a ball – both in-world and in the physical realm. The beauty of autumn and the frightfully good fun of Hallowe’en seamlessly flowed into a sweet Thanksgiving and then preparations for the glory of Christmas and Hannukah and Kwanzaa. Of course, various spiritual beliefs nourished those experiences for many, and families and friends gathered to enjoy one another’s company, sharing good food and good times.

Look back a recent postings for a look at what’s been happening at Ce Soir Arts, lovely involvements elsewhere (especially Seanchai Library and friends’ The Dickens Project!)…and what’s coming up too. We’ve taken a few holidays, but have enjoyed beautiful art, fine readings, and excellent music along the way. Our sixth anniversary was celebrated in grand style, and we look ahead to 2018 with excitement and anticipation. There will be changes afoot in coming months. Stay tuned!

This week, we have a return to the enjoyment of the spoken word at The Magic Tree. Whilst Poet Laureate Russell Eponym continues his extended vacation – and celebrated reader Caledonia Skytower plans her work for the year ahead – other of our regular readers return with some exceptional stories to share! We welcome back master storyteller Bryn Taleweaver, exceptional writer and reader Dubhna Rhiadra, and our own professor of literature Æon Woodford this Wednesday. Three hours of excellent tales with varying focus will garner our attention as we relax around the fire under the canopy of The Magic Tree. Check the schedule below for a bit more detail, and we’ll see you starting at 1 PM SLT! Your conveyance is HERE.

We trust that 2018 is off to a happy, healthy start for you – and certainly hope so. The weather has been a bit scary in some locales and fires and other natural disasters continue to wreak their havoc. I am thinking here of snowstorms, heatwaves, and canyon fires, etc. Let us remember those affected and hope for a good outcome for all.

Come…be inspired tonight!

A new year – and our sixth at Ce Soir Arts! Come celebrate with us!

Happy New Year! We are quite excited as we welcome another year – our sixth at Ce Soir Arts. To say that we have been enjoying our Second Lives would be an understatement of major proportion, as we truly love the creativity it sparks…the friends we’ve made…the music, art, poetry, and theatre we have experienced. It has definitely been an adventure!

BEFORE I DIVE INTO THAT STORY…look what we have planned for our return from the holiday hiatus! We had a wonderful holiday season and were honoured to take part in Seanchai Library‘s annual The Dickens Project. The lovely Caledonia Skytower, who reads for us at The Magic Tree, was kind to invite us over. We so enjoyed sharing information about Ce Soir Arts with visitors, having a special reading by our Poet Laureate/Artist-in-Residence/Musician Extraordinaire Russell Eponym. Caledonia and her collaborators created a beautiful London winter sim with a theme straight from Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol.

Come join us for a marvelous evening of music and celebration this Thursday at Château Ce Soir! We have three of our favourite regularly performing musicians gracing the stage for three hours of musical magic! BAZ is up at 5 PM, and he is amazing – a professional musician, composer, and arranger, his sets are always something special. At 6 PM, ANJ GUSTAFSON brings his stellar style and musical talents to rock the castle for an hour to remember, and then NUVOLINO, our Aussie fave, CHILLS us out to end the night in a very cool fashion!

Here’s the schedule! Come on over and join us…your party sleigh is HERE

When we arrived in-world in January 2009, we had little idea about what to expect. We imagine most “newbies” arrive in much the same state, even today (although we bet there are at least a few more savvy folks logging in for the first time these days). We began exploring straight away, although I admit we were a bit hesitant that first outing. Of course, the trepidation faded quickly as we met people and started jazzing up our rather plain avatars. In fact our first friends were owners of a well-known shoppe for skins and clothing for both male and female avis. The proprietors were incredibly friendly and supportive, even allowing us to logoff and land on their property as we sorted the whole situation and prepared to buy land, etc. Their guidance was invaluable, and through them we became acquainted with clothing lines such as the wonderful gothic wear at RFyre and AOs and other animation goods from the talented folks at VISTA Animations.

We started wandering about – all decked out in our finery and gorgeous skins – and began discovering the many aspects of life in Second Life®. It was an education, to say the least! After we got our first home – a few parcels on the Mainland – we set up house and enjoyed decorating the place, having a garden, hosting parties…and getting married in-world too. My cousin joined us as Best Man and my BFF logged in too as Matron of Honour. It was a grand wedding and we settled in. Soon, we got itchy feet and started going way past simple shopping for activities, mostly because we discovered ART GALLERIES and LIVE MUSIC VENUES! It was a glorious time and we met our dear friend Russell Eponym then; he was the first person to pronounce my French name correctly – without assistance!

Of course, we enjoyed Russell‘s music, and when we discovered his paintings, we were truly amazed at his Renaissance Man qualities. Little did we know (but were soon to discover) his poetic leanings as well. We attended loads of his shows at various venues and readings (which were then often at Circe’s sweet garden location). We met more people, made more friends, and developed a strong social life. We longed, however, for more privacy (living next door to my cousin was a HOOT – and oh, the fun we had! More on that later!) We wanted to be more permanent and so we acquired a homestead sim, bought another  house, and sunk roots so deeply that we still have that same sim in our family!

Time wore on and we enjoyed every login. Through my cousin, we discovered the magnificent work of one Alia Baroque at Fallen Gods. We were enchanted, to say the least, and expanded our circle of shoppes and friends. One night in November of 2011, we were shopping at Fallen Gods and literally stumbled upon an advertisement of some absolutely beautiful castles! We decided, right then and there, to buy all three of those structures…not having clue one about what we might do with them. Impetuous? Perhaps. Intuitive? Definitely. Within hours we had the idea to open a venue of some kind. And we had no idea at all what we were doing…we were just going to do it!

We cast about for another sim. We wanted a full sim, this time, because we hoped to draw some crowds for…whatever it was we were going to do. We looked at several, but when we found Ce Soir, we knew. And so…that very night – just days following our castles purchase from Fallen Gods – we began building a location. Not being exceptionally savvy about things, we thought we should keep our private home at sim level and “float” the venue space up above. I set to work and within a few days, Ce Soir Arts was ready to open to the public! I had LOTS of help from brilliant builders like Garvie Garzo, Speed Delight, and others we had met at places like the amazing Builders Brewery (that is still going strong in teaching builders the tools of the trade today). My cousin helped too, and he and I took many a class at the BB, cutting up and having a grand time learning from excellent instructors who – somehow – had the patience to teach the two of us!

I have gone on and on…and for that I apologise. I’ll rush ahead a bit and note the obvious – we changed the sim all around a couple of years back, bringing the main venue spaces down to the sim itself – and creating another level for a sweet wintry retreat we enjoy all year long. We do love The Conservatory and The Oracle Parlour, both surrounded by snow and woodland beauty. We have the main venue at Château Ce Soir, the forested reading spot dedicated to Poet Laureate Russell Eponym – called The Magic Tree – the Dover Beach Theatre where we sometimes bring in students and others for various performances, and three art gallery spaces where many fine artists of various media have shared their work with us, PLUS the cemetery and dungeons…. And it keeps growing! Read back in earlier postings for much more detail if you like.

Here’s to 2018! May it bring us more fun than we can dream…and more love than our hearts can hold!

Ce Soir Arts Main Venue – Château Ce Soir

As the holiday celebrations continue…we have an upcoming calendar!

We trust you are enjoying the holidays with family and friends, that you are having a great time with new gifts and tasting yummy foods of the season. We hope you are playing and having a fantastic time – and that you are finding time for rest and reflection as well. The New Year – 2018 – is coming quickly, and now is a good time to look back for learning and cherishing…and to look ahead with hope and dreams!

We will focus on the looking back for learning and cherishing in an upcoming post, but for today…. As December 2017 comes to a close and January 2018 dawns, we thought it a good idea to post upcoming events at Ce Soir Arts. Whilst Poet Laureate, Artist-in-Residence, and Musician ExtraordinaireRUSSELL EPONYM – is away on extended (and well-deserved) holiday, things have slowed down appreciably. We too, have taken a bit of a break, and it’s been fabulous so far. Several of our regular readers have been participating in the wonderful DICKENS PROJECT at LEA7. The lovely Caledonia Skytower and her collaborators from Seanchai Library and around the grid have done something marvelous again this year, and if you’ve not been there yet – TIME IS A-WASTING! The project closes on 30 December, so grab the LM and go wander about! (View earlier postings here for much more detail – and check here for the up-to-the-minute schedule!) There’s something spooky going on tomorrow at 3 PM SLT…and you won’t want to miss it!
