Something special from TerryLynn…

Pretty much everyone in SL knows and enjoys the music of the talented TerryLynn Melody. Her powerful, rich voice resonates in the hearts of those who hear her sing as her dynamic presence fills the hall with vibrant energy. We enjoy having her in at Ce Soir to sing, of course, but now and again we like to sit back and fall into the depths of her poetry. “Depths” is the right word, for her work is profoundly moving as personal reflections of her own experiences. We had the pleasure this past week again, and word has gotten round, for many came to join us at The Magic Tree Reading Spot, and it was clear that we all were captivated.

Not one to hesitate, TerryLynn dove right into the hour, and we followed as she made her way through a winding path of experiences from her childhood and youth, as well as more recently. All was related in her very expressive voice, touching and intimately present. Tone and inflection revealed every nuance of emotion, personal and profound; it was as if TerryLynn were revisiting those moments as she shared them. It was quite an hour, and it was cathartic for some – and I dare say, soul-stirring for all. Revealing the human spirit in its struggle with loss and pain – and its eventual triumph by its own sheer strength and perspicacity – is a thrilling, if now and again sobering, experience.

As I watched this event unfolding, I could not help but think that, “Ce Soir is made for this.” Indeed, the facing of truth and the exploration of beauty – and the expression of both by stark as well as nuanced means – is exactly why Ce Soir exists in the first place. People are our focus: eminently, completely, definitely, and TerryLynn‘s poetry makes the case. Thank you, TerryLynn, for sharing your most precious works, proving once more the power of the written – and spoken – word.

Readings with Russell: magic at The Magic Tree!

Russell Reading at The Magic Tree

As the first musician to play at Ce Soir – and as the first poet to read at The Magic Tree Reading SpotRussell Eponym has been a part of history at Ce Soir Arts. Russell’s acumen and experience in the arts are truly expansive, and his repertoire includes all genres of  literature as well as music and the visual arts. An erudite and learned man who has taught professionally, Russell brings this history and a great natural artistic sensitivity to each instance of performance in the fine arts. Indeed, his performances are more; they are times of connection and sharing with those who gather, as audiences are drawn into the experience of his work as much more than spectators. Indeed, Russell speaks directly to his audiences. In his naturally welcoming demeanor, he engages with each and garners their interest with ease.

Many know of Russell’s poetry and his readings of his own writings as well as those of others gifted with the pen, and his recitations have been well-attended and received over the years at many fine venues. We are pleased to have Russell reading routinely at Ce Soir and encourage all to join us. We trust that you will enjoy the ambience as we gather round The Magic Tree Reading Spot on the venue grounds to rest in the shade and to learn in rapt attention.

Russell knows poetry and poets, and he shares intriguing information about both with us, each week. Insight into the readings is fascinating as Russell notes interesting facts about writers and the history in which they have written. Moreover, he reads in varying voices, intoning the words as they were intended to be read. Russell‘s inflection is flawless and there are moments of raucous laughter, sweet love, brooding darkness, and even fright as he takes us on a literary journey each time. Some weeks, Russell has chosen a specific theme like Fae & Fantasy Poetry, Treasures from Children’s Literature, or Poems of Love; at other times, his readings are an eclectic mix of smiles and sighs – but they are always a delight!

We are easy to find at The Magic Tree Reading Spot and there are comfortable seats for all in this little wooded area of Ce Soir.  Russell reads each Tuesday at Noon SLT, and you are invited join us. Do come along and experience the magic of his readings. You will be ever so happy you did!

This week at Ce Soir…

Following the simply stunning two-month exhibit of the outstanding sculpture of Nessuno Myoo, we are taking a short “art break” but a new exhibit will open soon…and it will be a beautiful expression from one of SL’s most talented artists! You will note that some of Nessuno’s works remain, especially Back to Home and Spirit of Mechanical Angel, both of which will remain permanent parts of Ce Soir. How could we not add these into our environment? They fit perfectly, and we love them!

Soon, there will be a special exhibit to showcase the works of all the artists who graced the Ce Soir Arts Gallery in 2012 – our first year! We look forward to this lovely retrospective of the year in art at Ce Soir; it is much more than that, however, as each unique artist has continued in their explorations and work. How wonderful it is to be a small part in that! In addition, look for more plays and readings at the theatre. Tea with Ted & Sylvia will be repeated and we will be presenting special holiday programming as well.

A new look for the blog…etc.

We are making a few changes at Ce Soir Arts. We knew we would eventually shift our focus (and have been doing so, almost imperceptibly, for some time now) to a sharper focus on poetry and theatre. This does not mean that music and art will no longer be featured at Ce Soir. On the contrary, there will be opportunities for music and art in more locales around the venue space, and in months to come there will be more theatrical productions featuring music and yes, art.

2013 will be quite an adventure, and we invite you to come along with us as we explore projects – some new and some that have been languishing in the attic gathering faery dust for awhile. Thrills and chills, dark romance, outrageous laughter, and elegance gentil shall be enjoyed. Paupers and kings, divas and ladies-in-waiting, artisans and technorati will enchant us with historical tales and adventures into the uncharted future…and those who participate will have names you know – and names you will come to know. And, who knows? Perhaps it will be your name on the marquee! We are open to ideas, so please leave a note if you like.

We like to support charitable causes, and will do so often; and as always, everyone is welcome. Attend a concert, poetry recitation, play, or workshop (yes, there will be some seminars too) – or just come to Ce Soir to relax, dance, and enjoy the ambience of the gardens at sunset. Things may be changing, but one thing will always remain the same: our love of Ce Soir, of Second Life, of all who come here to explore and share their gifts, and of all who come to enjoy and nourish their own vision and spirit.

Ce Soir…be inspired, tonight!

Time to laugh! RUSSELL EPONYM Reads Humourous Poetry Today – 2 PM SLT

Today at 2 PM SLT, we shall gather round The Magic Tree Reading Spot to hear our dear friend Russell Eponym read a carefully selected group of poems chosen especially to delight us and make us laugh. It’s just what we need, midweek, so come along and enjoy!Poetry and prose, music and art of every genre almost always come to us coloured by the emotions experienced by the writer or musician, painter or sculptor at the time of creation. We experience these emotions – albeit mixed with our own – as we view, hear, or otherwise take in each work of art. Last week, for example, Russell came to The Magic Tree at Ce Soir to share with us poetry written about fae and fantasy. Who amongst us did not feel an array of emotions in response to each poem? We delighted at sprites dotting the landscape with sweet lights twinkling, shuddered at the thought of dark gnomes lurking in the forest shadows…and more!

As we go through life, we experience a rainbow of emotions including sadness, joy, anger, gratitude, fear, hope, guilt, pride, love. While we may have tears, we also have laughter – and sometimes both at once! Each feeling (and every shade of them, in between!) arises as a response to our thoughts and experiences and how they strike us. Life is so rich and varied, and the feelings we experience along the way reflect that. We’ve all heard that saying…”from the sublime to the ridiculous,” and, well…that just about covers it!

Please join us today at 2 PM SLT, when we shall travel a path “from the sublime to the ridiculous” with our dear friend, Russell Eponym, guiding us along as he reads a carefully selected group of poems designed to make us laugh! From time to time, we might smile sweetly (or wryly!), chuckle softly or guffaw out loud…but we’ll be laughing, guaranteed!
